Small Business Saturday Spotlight- Blue Sage Baby + Kids

Dressing emmy and elle in stylish, adorable, age- appropriate, and comfortable outfits is something I am passionate about and truly love. I love to shop around and see the new trends in baby and toddler wear for each season. For the past year, my toddler shopping habit (ahem...addiction) has been greatly helped with the opening of my favorite online children's boutique, Blue Sage Baby + Kids. I am honored to personally know the owner, Catherine Wellington, and even more honored to feature her on overwhelmed blog today for a Small Business Saturday Spotlight.

Blue Sage Baby + Kids has a variety of modern and stylish clothes, swimwear, sleepwear, wooden teether toys, and accessories (from swaddles to hair bows). Even though I do not have boys, she has the best selection of boys attire. This was one of the main reasons she launched BSK because she wanted to fill the need of better choices for boys clothes. We obviously think her girl attire is the best too because we have worn multiple outfits and Catherine even helped me pick out the perfect Almirah dress for our fall family photos.  She also carries some of my favorite brands such as Egg by Susan Lazar (the dresses the girls are wearing in the pictures above are Egg), Almirah, Go Gently Nation, Finn & Emma, The Bee & The Fox, Fourth + Pierce, and so many more.

Catherine is the definition of a mom boss. She is the mama to two, gorgeous children and finds the time to run an extremely successful business on her own. She has seamlessly tapped in to the social media market to show busy, modern moms + dads they can shop for everything they need online but she also hosts super fun pop-up shops at various locations across NC! I am so excited to announce that next Saturday, April 28th, Catherine will be setting up a Blue Sage Baby + Kids pop up shop in my home. Please come to support this awesome mama and to enjoy some girl time with light bites and cocktails! We will be doing a fun giveaway this week too so stay tuned! Make sure to check out Catherine's Five Fast Facts about herself and BSK below. See you Saturday!

Five Fast Facts about Catherine Wellington, owner of Blue Sage Baby + Kids

1. I’ve spent over a decade in retail and buying. Once I had my son Gregory in 2016, I was inspired to open Blue Sage Baby + Kids because I felt there was a lack of modern clothes for baby and kids (especially for boys) in our area. I opened the shop officially in March 2017. I have been so fortunate to meet and work with so many inspiring women and moms since opening the store. I love that there is a community of moms in Charlotte that juggle so many things and still support and lift one another up

2. We just recently welcomed our second baby at the end of October! Two under two has definitely been an adjustment. I’m finally getting into the grove of two kids, growing a small business and keeping my house half way clean (#momlife).

3. My advice for new moms or new second time moms is give yourself a little grace. You can’t do it all. For me, planning and some time for myself is so important. My husband travels every week so staying busy is imperative to survival when he’s gone! I try to plan my meals and activities on Sunday nights. We don’t always stick to the plan but it’s nice to have some structure to our week. I sneak away a couple times a week to work on Blue Sage Baby + Kids and to have a quiet moment for myself. All other work gets done with the kids go to bed!

4. I’ve suffered from post partum anxiety with both of my kids. With Gregory, I didn’t realize that’s what it was until I was out of it. With Carlin,  I knew what to look for and when I felt it coming on I made some changes that I knew would help and I am feeling so much better. I love that women are starting to become more open about issues revolving pregnancy and post partum.

5. Blue Sage Baby + Kids was named after the street I grew up on as a kid. To me, I thought of all the wonderful memories of playing with my sister and neighbors. I hoped to translate those memories into the shop and the lines I carry. I’m working on Blue Sage Baby + Kids everyday - trying to think of new ways to get involved with the community, uploading new product, buying for the next season or planning out our social media.

I'm lucky to know Jessica and thankful to be able to have a pop up at her house this month! Im so excited to meet you all and for a fun afternoon!
